What is a Boykin Spaniel?
Boykin spaniels are a relatively new dog breed that was bred in the early 1900s in South Carolina. Whit Boykin wanted a spaniel that was big enough to retrieve birds and water foul, but he also wanted something smaller than the other spaniels so that it wouldn't rock the boat as much! Because of these traits, some of the Boykin's nicknames are "The Little Brown Dog"
and "The Dog That Didn't Rock the Boat!" Whit crossed several different spaniels to create this breed. They were bred to flush out and retrieve ducks, turkeys, and other fowl. Boykin Spaniels are a medium-sized dog breed. Boykin Spaniels are typically one of two colors: liver chocolate or dark chocolate brown. Some also do have a small white spot on their chest.
